大台ヶ原・大峯山・大杉谷ユネスコエコパークでは、さまざまな人々が、森を守る活動や環境教育に取り組んでいます。そして、自然と伴走する形での持続可能な発展を目指す“健やかな産業”が営まれています。
Various people are working for the protection of forest lands and environmental education at Mount Odaigahara, Mount Omine and Osugidani Biosphere Reserve. Industries committed to sustainable development are operating in a way to run alongside nature.

自然の保全・再生への取り組みEfforts for protection and restoration of nature

保護区・利用調整区域の設定
Setting protection areas and Use Coordination Districts
「核心地域」は国指定の鳥獣保護区および吉野熊野国立公園に指定され、狩猟・開発・伐採・植物採取等が規制されています。また、大台ヶ原の西大台地区は利用調整地区に指定。入山人数の調整や、事前レクチャーが実施されています。
A “Core Area” is designated in the national wildlife protection areas and Yoshino-Kumano National Park. Hunting, development, logging, collection of plants, etc. are restricted. Nishi-Odai area of Odaigahara is specified as a Use Coordination District. The number of people who can enter the mountain is adjusted, and prior lectures are conducted.
自然再生事業
Nature restoration project
大台ヶ原では、環境省が策定した「大台ヶ原自然再生推進計画2014」に基づくさまざまな事業が100 年単位の視点で進められ、大峯山系でもオオヤマレンゲをはじめとする植生復元事業が行われています。
Various projects are conducted considering their impact 100 years later in Odaigahara based on the Odaigahara Nature Restoration Promotion Plan 2014 planned by the Ministry of the Environment. A project for restoring vegetation including Magnolia sieboldii is also conducted in the Omine mountain system.
鹿の食害対策
Measures against damage by deer
大台ヶ原や大杉谷国有林では、増え過ぎたニホンジカによる樹木の樹皮剥ぎや、実生の採食を防ぐための柵やネットの設置、捕獲による個体数の調整を実施。今後もモニタリングし、状況の改善に向けて活動が行われていきます。
Fences and nets are set, and the population is adjusted by catching to prevent stripping of tree bark and feeding on seedlings by Japanese deer whose population has increased too much. Deer are continuously monitored, and actions will be taken for improvement of the situation.

自然と対話する人を増やす教育活動Educational activities to commune with nature

環境イベント・エコツーリズム
Environmental events/ ecotourism
大台町の「大杉谷自然学校」、川上村の「達っちゃんクラブ」、「環境省アクティブレンジャー」などにより、地元の小中学生や地域外の学校・企業に対し、大自然や山村の暮らしを体験できるイベントやツアーが行われています。
Osugidani Nature School of Odai Town, Tatchan Club of Kawakami Village, the Ministry of the Environment’s active rangers etc. provide events and tours to experience nature and traditional living in mountain villages for students of local elementary schools and junior-high schools and corporations from outside the area
環境教育施設の整備
Construction of facilities for environmental education
天川村の「洞川エコミュージアムセンター」や、川上村の「森と水の源流館」、上北山村の「大台ヶ原ビジターセンター」など、各地域でそれぞれの自然環境や生き物の営みを、楽しく学べる施設が整備されています。
Dorogawa EcoMuseum Center of Tenkawa Village, Mori to Mizu no Genryukan of Kawakami Village, Odaigahara Visitor Center of Kamikitayama Village and others are constructed in each area as facilities to study the workings of the natural environment and its living things.
伝統文化の共有・継承
Sharing and inheritance of traditional culture
川上村の「森と水の源流館」や大台町の「大杉谷自然学校」などにより、柿の葉寿司などの保存食や郷土料理、ミツロウづくりなど、山村で受け継がれてきた暮らしを次世代に伝えていく取り組みが行われています。
Mori to Mizu no Genryukan of Kawakami Village, Osugidani Nature School of Odai Town, etc. are working to hand down the traditional culture of mountain villages. Here, the next generation learns of preserved food including Kakinoha-zushi (sushi wrapped in persimmon leaves), local cuisine, production of bees wax, etc.

健やかな発展を目指す経済活動Economic activities for healthy development

農業
Agriculture
日本一の清流宮川の水と竹林整備した竹の粉末肥料などで育てる「孟宗竹米」や、完全無農薬・有機栽培の「大台茶」など、環境負荷を減らす、または環境負荷を与えない栽培方法で農業を行い、製品を販売しています。
Agriculture is conducted by reducing or eliminating environmental load. Examples of such products are: Moso bamboo rice, grown with water from Japan’s number one limpid stream, the Miyagawa River, and from bamboo powder fertilizer produced after maintaining a bamboo forest, and Odai tea, grown organically without any agricultural chemicals, etc
林業
Forestry
大台町では循環型林業の確立に向け、地域性苗木を活用した多樹木混合造林を行っています。また、川上村を中心に、建築材や樽丸に使われるスギ・ヒノキの伝統的な林業を行っています。
To establishment recycling-oriented forestry, Odai Town conducts multi-species, mixed forestation utilizing local wood. In addition, traditional forestry of sugi and hinoki is conducted for construction materials and material for sake casks, centered around Kawakami Village.
その他の産業
Other industries
吉野杉の建築端材を割り箸に加工し、過程で出た木屑まで製品乾燥のための燃料に活用する「吉野杉箸」や、宮川の水を汲み上げてボトリングした「森の番人」など、自然の恵みを産業に、大切に活用しています。
Blessings of nature are utilized with care for products such as Yoshino sugi chopsticks, disposable chopsticks made of the lumber remnants of construction material of Yoshino sugi which utilizes the wood waste produced during the process as fuel for drying the products, and Mori no Bannin, bottled water of Miyagawa River.
