「日本三大渓谷」の大杉谷を行く、楽しさと厳しさを伴う中・上級者コースです。多様な植物で賑わう原生林、青々とした清流を横目に見ながら進めば、さまざまに雄大な滝や、圧倒的な自然の営みに出会うことができます。“自然”と人ではなく“人も自然の一部”であることを、楽しみながら、改めて感じてください。
An intermediate to advanced-level course through Osugidani Valley, one of Japan’s Three Famous Canyons. It provides both pleasure and severity. You’ll go viewing the virgin forest full of various plants and a clear blue limpid stream along the trail, and find various grand waterfalls and overwhelming works of nature. Please feel nature is not against humankind, but humans are also a part of nature.
- 注意事項
Caution - 1 疲れているとき、睡眠不足のときの登山は避けましょう。 2 装備と食料は十分に準備しましょう。特にヘルメットの装着をおすすめします。 3 全国一の多雨地帯です。天気予報には注意しましょう。 4 単独行動中の事故は命の危険に直結します。経験豊かなリーダーと行動しましょう。 5 毎年滑落者が出ているルートです。転落・滑落に注意しましょう。 6 河原でのキャンプは禁止されています。雨天は川の増水が想像以上に早いので注意してください。 7 遭難救助に要する費用は遭難者の負担になります。山岳保険への加入をおすすめします。 8 タバコのポイ捨てやたき火は森林火災につながるので、絶対にやめましょう。
1 Do not climb mountains when you are tired or you did not sleep well. 2 Prepare adequate gear and food. It is especially recommended to wear a helmet. 3 This is an area where rainfall is the highest in Japan. Pay attention to weather forecasts. 4 An accident when you are moving alone may directly put your life at risk. Be accompanied by an experienced leader. 5 Accidents by slipping and falling occur every year in this route. Watch out for accidental falls. 6 Camping on river beaches is prohibited. Be careful when it is raining because water level increases very fast and flash floods can occur. 7 The costs required for rescue operations are borne by the rescued person. It is recommended to buy mountain insurance. 8 Never throw burning cigarettes or make a fire because it may cause forest fire.

アドベンチャーの始まりを予感させる、登山道に入ってすぐに現れる鎖場。眼下の清流、多様な木々の美しさなどに目をやりながらも、足下に気をつけて進んでください。
The chain set near the starting point makes us expect the start of an adventure. Enjoy the clear limpid water under your eyes and watch the beauty of the diverse woods, but watch your steps when you go.
森目線の見どころForester’s eye
健全な森は、多様で明るいHealthy forest is diversified and bright
大杉谷登山道では、種類もサイズも年齢もさまざまな植物の中を抜けていきます。そこで注目なのが、森の明るさ。健やかな森には、光を通しやすい広葉樹がたくさん生え、木々の間隔も健全に保たれるので光が入り、とても明るいのです。
In Osugidani trail, you pass through plants of a variety of types, sizes, and ages. Please pay attention to the brightness of the forest. In a healthy forest, a lot of broad-leaved trees grow which easily pass light. Similarly, the intervals between trees are kept which help the trees grow healthily.

落差135mの天から降る滝A waterfall with a drop of 135m
“尋”とは約1.8mを表す言葉。千尋とは、“尋”の千倍という意味です。正確な落差は135mと千倍ではありませんが、非常に高いところから滝が降ってくることで、この名がつけられたとか。
“Piro” is a word meaning about 1.8m. Senpiro means thousand times of piro. The exact drop is 135m, and not a thousand times of piro, but it is named because the water falls from very high above your head.

大杉谷の中でも1、2を争う神秘的なスポット。細かなアップダウンの繰り返しで疲れた体を少し休めましょう。河原に降りられるので、水分を補給するも良し、目を閉じて耳を澄ますも良し。秘境中の秘境での時間をしばし味わってください。
One of the most mystical views in Osugidani. Rest yourself after walking through repeated small ups and downs for a while. You can go down to the river beach to refill water or close your eyes and listen to the beautiful sound. Savor the time in this unexplored area.
森目線の見どころForester’s eye
生きた化石、トガサワラLiving fossil, Japanese Douglas fir
トガサワラは、数百年前は北半球に広く生育していましたが、地質変動などでほとんどが失われました。その際に絶滅したと思われていましたが、再発見されたことから「生きた化石」と呼ばれています。現在は日本の紀伊半島と四国の一部にしか存在しない植物です。
Japanese Douglas fir used to grow widely in the Northern Hemisphere several hundreds of years ago. However, most of them were lost by geological changes, etc. They were thought extinct during this period, but they were rediscovered, and live on as “living fossils”. Currently they exist only in Kii Peninsula and a part of Shikoku.

Nice and cheerful staff welcome you to this mountain hut. You can choose a large shared room or a private room, and to your surprise, you can bathe in a hinoki bath. Recover your strength with a hearty dinner and prepare for the next day. You can order a lunch box in the evening and purchase drinks.

落差80mの日本百名瀑One of 100 best waterfalls in Japan with a drop of 80m
大杉谷の本流にかかり、スケールが大きく水量も多い、日本百名瀑のひとつです。見えているのは三段ですが、“七ツ釜”という名の通り七段に分かれているそうです。
This waterfall is in the main stream of Osugidani Valley having a large scale and plenty of water volume. It is one of the 100 best waterfalls in Japan. You can see only 3 tiers, but it is actually separated into 7 tiers as the name Nanatsugama (7 pots) shows.

崩落によって生まれる命Life born from a collapse
崩壊地を進むと、そこかしこで日に当たって気持ち良さそうな植物の赤ちゃんが顔を出しています。大きな木がいなくなったことで日が射して芽吹いたのです。多くを飲み込む崩落という現象。それは同時に、生み出す営みでもあるのです。
When you pass through a collapsed land, you will find baby plants growing comfortably under the sun here and there. They started to bud because the sun started to shine through after large trees are gone. Collapse swallows up many things but brings rebirth at the same time.

長らく登山道が閉鎖される原因となった崩壊地。無造作に転がる巨岩群が崩落の凄まじさを物語っています。岩の上を進むので足下が悪く、迷いやすいです。赤いペンキやピンクのリボンを目印に、急がず慎重に進みましょう。
The collapsed area caused closure of the trail for a long time. The huge rocks left here and there tell us the fierceness of the collapse. It is not easy to walk since we go over rocks, and we easily get lost. Follow the signs of red paint and pink ribbons and go slowly and carefully.

豪快に流れ落ちる滝、青々として透き通った滝壺、周囲の多様な木々の美しさ、絶えず聞こえる水の音。その全てが相まって、楽園のような空間をつくりだしています。しばし何も考えず、自然を感じてみてください。
A splendidly rushing waterfall, a blue and clear plunge pool, the beauty of the variety of trees around them, and the constant sound of water… All of these create a space like a paradise together. Feel the nature without thinking anything for a while.

全室個室でトイレも水洗、コウヤマキのお風呂がある快適な山小屋です。時間に余裕のある方はぜひ宿泊して、ゆっくりと大杉谷をお楽しみください。近くに水汲み場があります。
This is a comfortable mountain hut with all personal rooms, flush toilets, and a bath made of Japanese umbrella pine. Stay overnight to enjoy Osugidani without haste if you have enough time. There is a watering place near the hut.
